7 - First Saturday 17 - First Saturday 1 7 - first Saturday 27 - first Saturday 2 I taught a class at Frederick Community College all day today, and one of the topics we discussed was night photography.  It is definitely not easy.  In low light situations, you need a higher ISO, optimally a "low light" lens, and a tripod.  But if you're going for a walk, like I did, you certainly don't want to be toting around a tripod, so I at least had two out of the three requirements.  I got a lot of blurry images, but a few were acceptable.

Norma and I started First Saturday at the Delaplaine around 5 pm, to see the works there by Lori Anne Brooks and Monique Belitz, both of whom had very large (15 feet long?) works of art.  One worked on pieced together sections of paper, and the other had large canvases with great splashes of color and black handwriting.  I ran into several people I know there.

7 - First Saturday 37 - First Saturday 3 7 - First Saturday 47 - First Saturday 4 We walked along Market Street in the fading light, stopping next at the TAG gallery, where I am an associate member.  Brady Wilks and Marc Weinberg had shows there, and again I saw a number of people I know.

We walked back along Market Street, this time in the dark, had dinner at Hinode (closing permanently this week), and then back to the parking garage on All Saints.  We took the elevator to the top of the parking deck for couple of shots from above.

7 - First Saturday 57 - First Saturday 5 7 - First Saturday 67 - First Saturday 6 For good night shots, there needs to be no movement at all on the part of the photographer. I braced my camera on walls and tree trunks when I could, but nothing substitutes for a good tripod.  I know that, but tonight was more about the walk, seeing art, and seeing friends.  Mission accomplished.
