14 - Downtown 7 14 - Downtown 2 In honor of my upcoming trip to France, my friend Gary suggested that we take a walk downtown this morning to find the Ross House, which is near City Hall. There is a French connection with this house, so that was Gary's reason for the suggestion.
First we met at Carroll Creek, where there is a new fountain in operation across from LaPaz. It has various levels of platforms over which water cascades.
14 - Downtown 5 14 - Downtown 6 On our way to the Ross House, we stopped in to the Francis Scott Key Hotel's lobby. There are two large paintings in the lobby, depicting the battle at Fort McHenry. In one of them Francis Scott Key is shown penning the lyrics to the National Anthem. He wrote it exactly 201 years ago yesterday -- September 14, 1814.
14 - Downtown 1Just hanging' around! We continued on to the Ross House, but there were cars parked in front, so I didn't get a good shot. The house was also once owned by a cousin of Key's, so our original walk to find a French connection was turning more into a Key connection, which is really not hard to do in Frederick!
14 - Downtown 4 After a cup of coffee at Beans and Bagels, where I ran into a photo friend, we finished our walk along Market Street. What a beautiful morning -- it was a nice way to start the day.
