7 - Westminster 4 7 - Westminster 2 Today was a bit frustrating as I hunted for a location to do my walk. I was returning from New Castle, DE, and I should have stopped in Newark, home of University of Delaware. That great downtown area was bustling with activity, but I had my sights set on Rocks State Park in Maryland. I knew a waterfall was there, and I had everything with me I needed to photograph one: my camera, tripod, remote, and neutral density filter. However, when I arrived, there was not a parking place to be had.
Plan B was to find the sunflower fields in Jarrettsville, only a few more miles away. I found them, but only about one out of every 10 sunflowers was open. They should be great in a few days, but not today.
I always appreciate a well-marked trip hazard! Plan C was to walk in Manchester. By this time, I was getting hot, tired, and hungry. I needed to find a bathroom, too. I parked in Manchester and there was nothing open -- not a business or a restaurant at all. I left town and headed to Westminster, which was now Plan D. Luckily, I found a park right outside of Manchester that had bathrooms.
7 - Westminster 3Poe on the sidewalk 7 - Westminster 5 I arrived in Westminster around 1:00, and it held more promise for having at least something open. Yes, there are always fast food restaurants, but I try to support local businesses whenever I can.
CUP, a tea shop in town, was open, and I had a delicious rosemary chicken salad and iced tea after I completed my walk. A few people were downtown, but the place was very quiet on this Labor Day holiday. All is well that ends well, and Plan D worked fine after all. I'll try Rocks State Park again on a cold weekday in January!
